How to apply for our selective stream
Selective high schools are one of the ways that the department supports high potential and gifted students. These are students who learn faster and more easily than others.
As a partially selective high school, we have both local students in non-selective classes, and students who are placed through the selective high school process. Students in the selective high school stream will typically have classes together for English, mathematics and science.
We offer an equal number of selective high school places for girls and boys. Learn more at Gender parity model.
You can for selective stream entry even if we are outside your local enrolment area. Enrolment is by application only. You can choose up to 3 schools to apply to.

School contributions
Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay Campus has a commitment to ensuring that every student in NSW has access to high-quality public education in public schools.
While instruction in public schools must be provided free of charge, we are extremely grateful that some families choose to make voluntary financial contributions to our school.
In 2025, those contributions helped to fund:
- Click View – curriculum aligned videos
- Tutoring services for all students
- Guest speakers to support student wellbeing programs
- Annual Art Exhibition
- Specialist equipment including laser cutter and sewing machines
- Library furniture
- New Commercial Teaching Kitchen
- Outdoor classroom furniture
While we greatly appreciate these contributions, no one should feel pressured to financially contribute to their child’s public school.
Many families ask for guidance regarding an appropriate potential contribution, so we have consulted with the school’s P&C to provide that guidance.
You can make voluntary contributions via the School Bytes tab located on the school’s website.
Beyond this contribution, we will ask parents to contribute to some other costs throughout the year. These costs sit outside delivery of the core curriculum and participation is optional for families. This may include excursions or extracurricular activities.
You will be advised if any of these items have associated costs. Students in Years 11 and 12 who enrol in an elective subject with a major work or the need for specialist materials may also be affected. No child will be disadvantaged if you are unable to meet these costs due to financial hardship. If you need help from the school, you can apply for confidential support via the following link:
