About Australian Apprenticeships
Australian Apprenticeships are available at a variety of qualification levels in most occupations as well as in traditional trades. Careers in Australian Apprenticeships combine practical work with structured training that can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. They can be full-time or part-time. You can even start a vocational and technical qualification or an Australian School-based Apprenticeship while completing Year 11 and 12.
When you finish your Australian Apprenticeship you'll have a nationally recognised qualification that will take you anywhere in Australia and one that is held in high regard in many overseas countries as well.
Earn while you learn
It can take from one to four years to complete an Australian Apprenticeship depending on the qualification you undertake. Australian Apprentices are paid a training wage for the time they spend ‘on-the-job' with their employer and are usually employed under a federal or state/territory award or agreement.

One way to learn more about Australian Apprenticeships and to link up with an employer interested in taking you on is to contact an Australian Apprenticeships Centre in your region. To find an Australian Apprenticeship you can also search advertised job vacancies, contact employers in industries where you would like to work or contact your local Group Training Organisation or Job Network member.

Find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice. You can do this by:
- Looking in the job vacancy ads in your local paper or on the web
- Contacting the Job Network provider in your region. You can find out who this is by calling 13 62 68
- Contacting employers in the industries you'd like to work in. Go and see them and leave a copy of your resume
- Contacting a Group Training Organisation.

Step 5
Ask the employer willing to take you on as an apprentice, to call their local Australian Apprenticeships Centre. The centre will help you and your employer with all the paperwork.
