Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Clubs
Student Voice + Enrichment
Student Voice is an approach to education that values the perspectives, experiences and aspirations of students. Students are at the centre of everything we do in education and these programs and groups give Blackwattle Bay students the opportunities to develop leadership skills to take with them as they transition from school to tertiary education and beyond.
Chess Club
Chess club compete in weekly games in the library. Later in the term, we have plans to enter bigger competitions to play against other schools and groups.
Model United Nations Assembly
Blackwattle Bay Campus is sponsored by Sydney Rotary to participate in the annual event held at NSW parliament in June. In 2024 we represent Israel at the United Nations and in previous years we have represented France and United States of America. It is an amazing experience and requires intensive research to be bale to represent the allocated country.
The Sexuality and Gender Alliance is a group for LGBTQIA+ students and allies. SAGA provides a place of inclusivity, respect and understanding for all people if different genders and sexualities. They meet fortnightly to discuss gender and sexuality related matters in the school and organise events such as Wear It Purple Day.
Student Experiences of School Sports
Rowing
"I first started rowing through Balmain Campus's Tuesday sport program. I immediately loved the sport and I've since gone on to keep developing my skills and fitness at Leichhardt Rowing Club and representing Blackwattle Bay Campus.
Rowing requires a significant training commitment which has made some aspects of the HSC challenging. On the other hand, it's forced me to improve my time management skills and has given me an outlet of physical activity to help management school and exam stress. It's also been a great opportunity to get recognition from universities and to have extra support network of friends and coaches I can rely on."
Dylan, Year 12
Futsal
"Futsal in the hall is a great way to stay active during our HSC. We enjoy it so much we consistently come in during our late starts to play against our mates. It's an all-round great time, always competitive and enjoyable"
Amy, Year 12
Volleyball
"Volleyball has been such a good experience at Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay, providing me with meeting a group of friends who share the same interests as me. I will never forget the fun and volleyball will be a sport I continue with for life."
Oliver, Year 12
Basketball
"On Friday we have lunchtime Basketball. It's not only a great way to stay active at lunch but allows students to bring out their competitive edge in an exciting round robin style competition!"
Nicholas, Year 12
