Diversity Day 2019

22 Mar 2019

On Wednesday 20 March, Blackwattle Bay Campus celebrated Diversity Day. It's our very own take on Harmony Day, a day on which we showcase the incredible diversity that characterises our school community.

Guest speakers on the day included Gretta Serov who told her story of living life to the full and not letting Cerebral Palsy get in the way. Her story was truly inspirational, and an incredibly powerful way to kick off our assembly. Isaiah Dawe of ID Know Yourself, an indigenous-led organisation that supports young people within the Out of Home Care system also spoke to us about what can be achieved in the face of adversity when we practice a growth mindset. But the most moving speeches of the day were made by our very own students who reflected on the tragic events in Christchurch and delivered a powerful message of solidarity in the face of those who would seek to divide us.

The day was capped off by an international feast of cuisines and our annual Talent Quest which showcased our students' incredible talents for music and dance.

Immense thanks go to Ms Shui for her organisational prowess, Ms Thompson and the VET Entertainment students for their production work and all those students and staff who took part in the day.
